Cinco de Mayo

I know that Cinco de Mayo is a regional Mexican holiday and has nothing to do with my Guatemalan son, but it's still a day to celebrate Hispanic heritage and that has everything to do with him.
As he was stuffing his face with chicken tamales tonight, I was thinking about the ways that his Mayan/Ladino heritage shows itself on a daily basis.
  • Andrew LOVES Latin music. When a Latin song comes on, he will stop whatever he is doing and shake his little booty. It cracks me up! Yesterday, he was sitting in his carseat looking at his animal book and Ricky Martin's "Livin' la Vida Loca" came on the radio. He dropped the book and started dancing like crazy. He has such great rhythm already.
  • Andrew's absolute favorite food is rice and beans. He LOVES them. I can usually count on him sleeping through the night after he's had rice and beans. He eats SO much of them and they fill him up. He also loves tamales, tortilla chips and plantains.
  • We have had very little sun (that he's been able to get out in) and he is already starting to tan. (I'm still pasty white in case you were wondering.)
Mmmmmm......tamales.

Don't you love my refried bean mustache?
