Poser

Here's some irony for you:
Now that I have a camera that can capture Andrew's constant state of motion, he has decided that he WANTS me to take his picture and poses constantly. I can never get a step ahead of this kid.

New Camera

I bought a new camera last week. I can't stand the thought of making a (maybe) once-in-a-lifetime trip to Ethiopia and coming back with blurry pictures. I have not even gotten past the second chapter of the Canon for Dummies book but I've been trying to play with it now and then to get the hang of it. What I already love about it is that I can actually capture my constantly moving son.

Unity

I've been thinking about this theme all week and then yesterday, in my Sunday School class, the teacher spoke about Unity. One of the things that Bill said that I loved was that when we are in unity together...we 'activate God'. I see this so much in the adoption community. I have met the most amazing women (and men...but mostly women) through the adoption process and I am constantly in awe of the support I have experienced among them. Women who have never met face-to-face celebrate, cry, support, cheer and pray for each other.

Adoption is hard. Life is sometimes hard. And being a parent is definitely difficult. All of it is easier, better and more manageable with friends and a strong, supportive community. I am blessed to have found a great group of people during both of my adoption processes. I am also blessed to have a wonderful church family who have been excited and prayerful with me. And I am especially blessed to have parents who have been nothing but supportive during this journey.
If you are reading this...you are one of these people and have touched my life and the life of my sons in some way. Thank you for that.

Trouble with a capital 'B'

I got three updates on Bereket this weekend...I might very well be skinny by May.

Ruthanne...you have your work cut out for you.. Bereket has the run of the place. Unlike everyone else he doesn't have to stay in a room, he goes from place to place whenever he wants! So adorable...and a chunk! He is eating very well. I have a great video of our friend playing with him and his big beautiful smile.

Bereket -- oh Ruthanne. He's bigger than you think. Seriously, the kid's a tank. And he has the run of the place -- he seems to be the only one who has no rules there. Seriously, you can't even imagine the thighs on this boy!

Ruthanne's Bereket - everything you have heard is true =) He sat on my lap while the babies took baths...he is precious! And big...has anyone mentioned that =)

Tickets!

I bought my tickets to Ethiopia today! I got a great deal (considering how expensive it is to sit in a cramped seat for 19 hours). I've never been on a plane for more than 4 hours at a time. I can't even wrap my head around how long this flight will be--my knees and joints ache every time I even think about it.
The HR guy at work told me the other day that there is no way he could be on a plane for that long. I told him I would much rather sit on a plane for 19 hours than to be in labor for that long. I hope I still feel that way when I am half way over the ocean.

Presents, presents, and more presents!

Andrew had a GREAT birthday. We brought home Mexican take-out (he requested rice and beans and cupcakes for his birthday dinner) and then opened presents. It took him an hour and a half to open all his presents--not because he had that many presents (although there were quite a few that had been sent from his grandparents and other friends and family) but because Andrew is a careful present opener. He loves to look at every thing he gets and to even play with them a little bit before moving on to the next gift. It's fun to watch how excited he is by everything he opens.

He invited some of his favorite friends:

YUM!

VERY happy about the shirt that Aunt Tara sent him. The argyle pattern is made using recycled pieces of huipils (the hand woven blouses worn by Guatemalan women).

Super excited about the Lincoln Logs from Uncle Dan and Aunt Lisa:

This is one of my all-time favorite pictures of him...he looks SO old here, though.
