Libros (books)

Andrew LOVES to look at his books. It's his new 'toy' of choice in the car. Before I can even get him buckled in, he is leaning over reaching for a book out of his basket. And he gets so excited when he opens the book--as if he's seeing the pictures for the first time. We went to Border's today and I admit, I came out of there a little bit poorer than I had intended, but you'd understand if you saw the look on his face when he 'reads' them.

I originally went to Border's to buy another copy of Animal Talk. He has 'loved' it to death. It used to have flaps that opened--not anymore. He opens to each page and makes the correct animal sound (he's sooo smart). At the end of the book, there is a polar bear sleeping and the words say, "zzzzzzz.....Night-night". He points at the bear and says, "Nigh-nigh". See what I mean? He's SMART! ;)

Dance, dance, dance

Have you seen enough of Andrew's dance moves yet? I haven't.
He turns on the CD player in my room and starts dancing before the music even comes on. He has now figured out how to turn it on, open the CD compartment and press play.
I don't know where the hip thrusts came from but they crack me up. Elvis would be sooooo jealous.

What do dragons eat?

Not fish sticks and not lettuce as you'll see in these videos. :)

One of my students went to the Memphis Zoo this weekend to see the pandas. She brought back this dragon for Andrew. He LOVES it. They ate together tonight. He kept making the dragon knock the food off his tray and then he would look at the floor and say, "uh-oh". Naughty dragon.

Brrrrr....

Last night, when I put Andrew to bed (and I wasn't far behind him) it was 75 degrees. I put him in a little onesie, opened his window and turned on the fan.

This morning when I woke up, it was 42 degrees! What in the world happened? This is how I found him this morning. Poor little guy. He didn't feel cold, though. He's always so sweaty--he probably felt comfortable. (at least, that's what I'm telling myself. lol)

Of course, Lovey is front and center.

Baby Steps

We have steps!! Andrew took four steps toward me yesterday (with a LOT of prompting). I didn't want to tell anyone because I wasn't sure if it was a fluke. Today, I went to pick him up in the church nursery and they said he was taking 3-4 steps between two of the women. Later, we went to have dinner with some friends and he took some steps there too. He's getting excited about walking and smiles really big when he does it. He has also decided that he likes to just stand there on his own without holding onto anything. Yay!!

I don't have any video of him walking yet. It's hard to hold the camera and talk him into walking toward me. As soon as I get some pics, you know I'll post them!

Faux Hawk

Mommy, what have you done?

I HATE this new hairstyle!

Now that I see it from the side, it does look pretty rockin'.

OK, I like it!

What? It's not permanent? It just rinses out?
Well, that was just mean.

Airplane

Sometimes, when Andrew is not interested in eating, I play "airplane" with his food. Now that he is getting the hang of eating from a spoon, he plays airplane with himself. It's SO funny.

La Bamba

Andrew's favorite song right now is "La Bamba". I had the CD (children's version) in my CD player and he keeps turning it on and wanting to hear it. He not only dances to it, but sings too. I couldn't decide which video clip to share with you, so I'm putting all three of them on here.

Lovey and Perro

Andrew is head-over-heels in love with his Lovey. There are tears some days when we have to leave him at home in the morning and always a big hug and kiss for him when we come home at night. Perro (the barking/singing dog) comes and goes. Sometimes, Andrew loves him and wants me to make him 'sing' and other times he is afraid of him and he puts him in the bottom of the toybox. This day was a 'love' day. I was cracking up because when I looked over at what he was doing, he was making Lovey and Perro hug and give each other kisses. I'm not sure what they did to keep getting banished to the side of the chair, though. lol

Ready for the Rodeo

It's been a rodeo-kind of weekend. Andrew has become a buckin' bronco whenever I try to change his diaper and now he has figured out how to mount and dismount the zebra all by himself. Ride 'em cowboy!

He can even ride 'no-handed'!

A Day at the Park

Mom, are we just going to sit around in bed all day?

I want to go OUTSIDE!

Now, that's what I'm talking about!

Tell me I'm not the cutest kid you've ever seen.

Andrew and I went to the park today.
Swings?--"no thank you."
Spinning around?--"no way."
Sand and Dirt?--"yes, please."

mmmmm.....they have snacks here too!!
It's a wood chip smorgasbord.

Bathtub fun

One of my favorite times during the day with Andrew is when he is in the tub. First of all, he's contained and can't do as much 'damage'. lol Secondly, he loves it in there so much and has such a great time. He makes the funniest little faces and just acts silly.

Look at his toes in this one. He holds them like that all the time. That would give me a cramp.

Tickle, tickle, George:

My 1st Mother's Day

I've been telling Andrew all week, he had his choice of gifts to give me: He could take his first steps or he could say, "mama". (he says 'mama' all the time, but I don't think he knows it's me) Those are fair gifts, right?

We went to church in the pouring rain and then went out for a delicious breakfast of pancakes and hash browns. Most Sundays, Andrew is falling asleep in the car on the way home from church. Today he was wide awake. He finally went down for a nap at 3:00. I quickly dismantled, replaced the wax seal on and repositioned the toilet in my bathroom--fun stuff. Please don't be too jealous. I had just made the final adjustments when Andrew woke up. A 40 minute nap. Was that my gift?

He then proceeded to tear around the condo as fast a non-walking child can and destroy everything in his path. Was that my gift?

At dinner, he threw all his pancakes (I know, pancakes twice in one day--I'm not perfect) on the floor. Was THAT my gift?

At 7:45, I laid him in his crib. He looked up at me with his sleepy little eyes and said, "mama". I don't know if he meant it for me, I don't even know if he understood what he said. But, it made the whole day amazing and I choose to believe that for that one split second, "Mama" meant me.

Here is the 'other' gift he gave me:

These are the flowers and cards I got from my wonderful friends and from my parents:

Happy Mother's Day!

I have the best mom in the world. She is a strong, determined woman with a very kind, giving heart. She is the kind of person that you can call no matter what you need and she will always try to help.(She also taught me to be very independent so I'm not usually one of the people who calls her with a need. lol)
My mom gave me my 'crafty' side. She taught me how to cook, crochet, scrapbook and sew. She always has a bunch of projects she is working on or wants to start. Unfortunately, we both have more ideas than time or energy. :)
She loves her grandchildren unconditionally and spoils them without being overly permissive.
Over the past year, she has been battling breast cancer. She has been strong and determined in her fight. She is now finished with treatment and is wig-free!

This picture's for you, Mom.

Happy Mother's Day!
