A great day!

Friends of ours took us out for Ethiopian food yesterday to celebrate my birthday. We had never had Ethiopian food before and it was FANTASTIC. Andrew loved it almost as much as I did. The food was delicious, the company was terrific and the restaurant staff was friendly and very helpful.

These basket-like tables and carved wooden chairs were gorgeous.

Beautiful woven baskets used to cover the food trays.

Manny was starving! He couldn't wait for the food to come out.

These little appetizers (called Sambusas) were sooo good. They were a little bit like fried wontons and the dipping sauce was amazing...like sweet and sour sauce with some spice.

Our tray of food. We had chicken, shrimp and two lamb dishes. They were all sooo yummy.

Andrew dug right in. He will try anything and usually loves it.

Injera, anyone?

Ellie, Harper, Andrew and, of course, Manny:

mmmm....Ethiopian coffee.

After lunch, we went to the Lincoln Park Zoo to see the gorillas.

My own little monkey:

We got to see a cow being milked!

Petting the goats:

Andrew's first mold-a-rama!!!

a 'moo-moo cow'

Farmer Andrew:

Peter carried Andrew for a little while on the way back to the car. Andrew kept saying, 'Giddy-up'. I have no idea where he learned that one but it was very funny.

When we got back to the Daniels' house, they made hot dogs on the grill and we roasted marshmallows for smores. It was Andrew's first smore....he's a fan!

Hanging in the hammock with Ellie.
