Inauguration Day

It is still so amazing to me that this is our new First Family.
Forty years ago, Martin Luther King Jr. was killed for being a black man who preached equality and today an African American man is being sworn in as our President. I wish Andrew were a little older so he could at least have some memory of this day. I have tried to impress on my students how important today is and that they are witnessing history but I know they are too young to grasp the magnitude of this change.
If I am able to adopt from Ethiopia, my son's citizenship letter will be signed by the first African American President of the United States. It makes me smile just thinking about it.

  1. What a GORGEOUS family photo of them. Ruthanne I agree with everything you said. It is such an amazing day and I am so grateful we get to experience it. Our country has a long way to go (our town has a long, LONG way to go), but we're on our way. :)

  2. I agree! Ruby doesn't get it but Medina gets some of it. She asked me yesterday if she could stay home today to watch tv. I know she doesn't get it all but I'm glad she's here for this.

  3. First things first...Happy Belated Birthday Andrew! I hope you had a great day and loved your mac and cheese/meatball dinner! :)

Now, WOW...I am so impressed that you are thinking of adopting again. It's inspiring to me! I have been a single mom this week (yes, it's just Tuesday) and I am already pooped! It's also inspiring that you are ready again. Let me know when you take the great plunge... It is very exciting about having a new leader. I didn't vote for him (not happy with the other one either) but I AM excited about the fact that we now have such a wonderful change. I wish that Caroline was old enough to understand the history. I was glued to the tv today and recorded it for Tim (who is in VA). It was a great day.

  4. What a wonderful thought to have it signed by President Obama. It is meant to be.
